The Fine Art of Bullshitting

Now if you think bullshitting is not an art form just take a look at the past presidential race and you can see openly just how important this art form is to the politician who must, through long hours of intense study, become a master of his trade. The canvas of promises he paints and displays openly before his admiring throng in all it’s beauty is truly amazing. His glib tongue deftly laying stroke upon stroke across a broad canvas, he forms the contrast and conflict of his opponents deep shadow juxtaposed his very own brightest of light . . . while the layman postulates himself before the Master and stares upon his canvas of dreams.

It seems the only time you get the truth, or even an honest opinion from this breed is to listen to these people AFTER they leave office. Generals, Senators, all the way down to the local yocal member of the school board are so steeped in spinning bullshit during their career you just can’t trust a word they say.

Obama knows the art form and used it well. He is a Master at his trade. McCain, although I’m sure he’s also a Master in his own right, chose another emotional theme for his canvas. Obama’s work centered on hope. McCain’s centered on fear.

More people responded to hope than fear so Obama won the bullshit (tell them what they want to hear) election in spite of the fact most people who voted for Obama probably instinctively knew he couldn’t keep most of the promises he had painted for them. They were, in the light of current events, wishful thinking at the most.

I personally believe he will be far to busy just keeping the ship of state afloat after the disastrous last eight years of George Bush to do much else. Hell, man we will be lucky to have a monetary system at all by the end of next summer, let alone enough cash to do anything much to help the poor and needy middle class in this country.

So how does this all pertain to our personal survival?

A man who understands the nuances of bullshitting can and will survive longest among his fellows. He knows it is far easier many times to convince an enemy than to kill him, especially if he is out gunned and outnumbered.

He knows instinctively if he practices faithfully and becomes an adept, the sky is the limit.

He knows a good line of bullshit and a glib tongue can get him shelter, water and food even when outnumbered and living amongst his enemies. Even when facing certain death the true and fearless artist can sway his captors into his camp by merely corralling them with his tongue.

A great bullshitter has to be in charge of his own mind. He must be intelligent and wise to the ways of man and of the world. He must not just control the room, he must own it. People must love him. They must look up to him. Want him to lead them. He must be a chameleon shape shifter able to capture the essence of a rainbow for them. He must like the apostle Paul “be all things to all men.”

The greatest, the most satisfying, the loveliest words that the truly masterful bullshitter can hear is for his following to say with heart felt conviction.

 “Our leader speaks the truth.” . . . . . . . . . .

Know Your Enemy

It is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you will not be imperiled in a hundred battles; if you do not know your enemies but do know yourself, you will win one and lose one; if you do not know your enemies nor yourself, you will be imperiled in every single battle. . . . Sun Tzu

The above quote was taken from Sun Tzu’s treatise, The Art of War. This well proven book has, for the last 2500 years, been considered the fighting manual of choice by military men throughout the world. A list of it’s readers would contain the names of Patton, MacArthur, Stalin, Mao Zedong, so forth. Vo Nguyen Giap used it’s knowledge to defeat both the French and the Americans in Vietnam. It’s concepts are being taught even today at the American War College.

The Art of War contains the final answer to those caught in a David and Goliath moment where the enemy is far larger and far more powerful than their fledging resistance. It’s worked before, it will work again as we take on the gas industry and their minions in Congress and the State legislatures.

I am reminded at times like these, when the odds are so overwhelming, how those little brown men in Vietnam kept moving supplies along the Ho Chi Minh trail, in spite of the millions of tons of bombs the US threw at them. They trucked that trail carrying heavy loads on their backs, riding bikes, pulling carts, enduring heat, insects, hunger . . . anything to get the supplies to their soldiers fighting in the South.

No matter how hard the Americans tried, they could not stop them. No matter how many bombs the Americans dropped, they could not stop them. They NEVER quit coming . . . until finally the Americans gave up and went home defeated, not by a standing army in the field, but by the resolve of the people themselves who gave their lives by the hundreds of thousands in order to obtain freedom from those who sought to own her. They never quit!

So, for those of us who have chosen to oppose the gas companies in their quest to move quickly and destructively against our properties and our lives, it behooves us to take a bit of time to read Sun Tzu and understand some his tactics before diving into an action that will end only in futility and emotional stress. We need to get to know our enemy as well as ourselves.

So who is this giant in our land? What are his goals? His motivations? His fears? What kind of energy fuels his mind and causes him to function? All these things are important to know in order to defeat him.

Ask yourself the same set of questions. What are your goals, motivations, and fears? Sun Tzu said you must know yourself as well as the enemy if you have any hope of defeating him. Are you up to the task? Or are you just a “cause” groupy who enjoys going to demonstrations and stuff. If so, I can assure you there were no groupies along the Ho Chi Minh Trail.

First of all, when it comes to an enemy, you must respect him. He is smart, maybe smarter than you. He can hurt you far less if you do not take the easy route by demonizing him, or belittling him. This only gives him an advantage.

In this instance the gas industry is the enemy, but this enemy is in reality made of individual people much the same as you and me. They are not devils, nor do they enjoy eating children. They may merely be blind men in need of a good sight adjustment.

Try to understand where he is coming from, and why he feels as he does. See him not so much an ignoramus, but someone who has been molded by our capitalistic society into a good soldier for the cause. A soldier who can see no further beyond himself than the feet of the soldier climbing the corporate ladder above him. Where is he going? Well, actually he doesn’t know, he just knows he needs to keep climbing.

What motivates him? Well, there are what I call the ‘three P’s’ that seemingly motivate all these type A personalities. The quest for Power . . . Position . . . and Possession. That’s it, that’s all they see… Me . . . Me . . . and Me.

If it were possible to sit these guys down and suck all that stuff out of their heads, they may see the reality and beauty of the ‘oneness’ in this ecosystem that we share with the rest of creation. We may be caretakers of it, but it does not belong to us. We did not create it and in spite of all our touted advances in technology, we have yet to learn how to even put out a good weather report.

If it were possible to prove to them how easily we can ruin the whole thing, they may take a second look and stop this mad dash for the most cash that’s ruining our water, and even the air we breathe. They may come up with a different answer to the question: ‘What’s the most important, water, air, or gas?”

So how do we go about fighting these dudes? What are their greatest strengths? Well, let’s see . . . they own the state legislature, they own the governor, they own most of the capitol, they own the courts. So wow, how dumb is it going to be fighting them on their own turf? If that’s the best we can come up with, we really ought to quit and sign the lease ourselves.

Now, this political avenue could be a side street, of course, because ultimately all this will have to be decided by the courts as they’re the guys who enforce the law, and isn’t that what we all want? Good, honest law that takes into account the needs of the landowner as well as the gas company?

Even though money has, for now, decidedly turned the political head, its been proven time and again that these Congressional hacks will duck and cover as soon as the light of day rests upon their sorry heads.

Look at the movie Gasland and what a giant headache it is causing for the gas industry. That’s just one movie. THAT is a point of FEAR for these guys. Make more movies.

It’s up to us to document and prove what is taking place upon our land. They will fight us tooth and nail using lies, innuendo, anything to divert the reality of the facts we bring forth. We MUST document . . . and a good ‘before and after’ video is in my opinion, a preferred weapon of choice.

I would even recommend recording the salesman when he makes the pitch and videotaping everything that takes place after that. It may save you a lot of grief later.

If your enemy owns the night, draw him into the day.

If he owns the jungle, meet him on the prairie.

When it comes to these gas corporations the only thing they don’t yet own is us. Our turf is what they want, so wouldn’t that be the place to fight them? On our own turf, bearing the weapons we choose, and following the gorilla tactics of our choosing also?

This is the point of contact. This is where the victory lies. This is the place where the haves meet the have nots. . . . AND the place we own.

In order to draw the gas out of the shale they need us to sign their contract, it’s that simple. No contract, no gas. The fight doesn’t begin after our water is ruined. The fight begins when that salesman sits down at our kitchen table and begins to unload his box of promises on us. How many of us already signed the company contract? How many have had it looked at by their lawyer? I know some who haven’t.

Why would anybody allow some clown to come into their house with a company sided contract, and sign it without a thorough going over by a lawyer is beyond me. I know honest people have this thing about them that says all other people are honest, especially if they have just received an offer they couldn’t refuse, but damn, man, these waters are FULL of sharks.

We need to teach our people that when they quickly sign the contract they are paying a steep price for their greed and ignorance. We need to have them watch some of these videos like Gasland and be informed and fully aware BEFORE they make the decision to give up the family farm.

We need to be able to prove what will happen to them by using one example after another, of something that has already happened. We need to convince our people that if it sounds too good to be true, the fact is it probably is.

We need to convince them that we are not advocating complete withdrawal of the gas companies and their armies of drill teams. We only need the industry to stand down long enough to answer these problems with pollution and straighten them out before they restart their drilling machine.

We need to convince the industry that we need gas for heat as much as they need to dig it up. We are not against drilling. We are against the crazy way they are going about it.

We want safety for our cattle, for our children and for ourselves, not just the pile of bullshit they are currently tossing on our kitchen tables. If they want to partner up with us, let’s do it fair and square. Put it all on the table and dispense with the rhetorical PR. It may be beneficial to all of us.

What they are doing now, in all their arrogance, is offering nothing more than a train wreck that will ultimately destroy them as well as us. Power, Position and Possession, is their common goal . . . BUT WE own the Power. We own the Position. We own the Possession. They don’t own any of it, they just want to take ours. We are not the beggars here, they are.

Bottom line is that we must slow down the gas rush and make it more eco friendly. If that is impossible to do, drop the whole thing until it is.

One Dimensional View In A Three Dimensional World

One huge problem we humans seem to have, especially in todays fast paced world is our tendency to view things in only one dimension. Maybe it’s because we are so frantic and hurried, but on practically any subject, especially when it comes to personalities and politics we tend to pass judgment much too quickly, many times based only on what we hear on TV or read in the media. Worse yet, what we take as the gospel truth is usually just the biased view of some media guru speaking his favorite spin of bullshit for ratings.

The subjects of these diatribes, these images plastered on our flat screen TV that we judge so quickly and are about to vote for, are not merely one dimensional (good or bad) automatons, they are complicated works of humanity that demand a bit more study if we are concerned at all about making the wise choice to benefit our particular position.

We see a nice looking women like Sarah Palin and that’s all it takes for half the jerky dudes in this country to vote for her. Same women less attractive and they would not give her the time of day.

We see someone at ease before the camera having enough intelligence to talk in an impressive manner, we buy his line whether it’s true or not because that’s as far as we look.

Bill Clinton was impressive, he makes it to the oval office. Ross Perot is not quite as handsome nor is he quite as connected, he goes back to his office in Texas in defeat.

Why? We normally choose to vote for or against a person on their party affiliation and emotion alone. We never move off the first dimensional view of this complicated human called ‘candidate’ to see what he/she is all about. . . . and we have suffered dearly for our laziness.

Thing is practically anybody can put up a good enough dog and pony show for a short period of time to impress someone. They can look good and say cool things and if you are a dope maybe they will even have you calling yourself a ditto head like the Limbaugh crowd does. While in reality all the guy’s doing is spreading before your limited view his own disjointed opinion. Then when this real life sociopath gets into office and does none of what he promised, you will sit in your lazy boy to bitch and complain about them for the next four years until the next con comes along.

Or you may just realize they are all crooks anyways so you vote Charlie Wrangell (a proven crook) back into office for no other reason than name recognition, or the fact he’s a vet, or some other inanity other than realizing you were just too damn lazy to use this wonderful gift the gods have given you called a brain and searched the roster for a better candidate.

Taking the three dimensional view takes work and it takes time. The three dimensional view has to check behind this candidate and his rhetorical stance. You can’t just take what anybody says as gospel because everybody I know thinks far more highly of themselves than they ought to, it’s a part of the human condition.

We need honest (and yes there are some!) politicians who are willing to take the blame when they screw up and not just hide behind their desk and point fingers. We need men and women who are real and who don’t spend their time behind their chosen persona, but actually get into the pit and fight for you.

This country is collapsing because of OUR short sightedness and lack of caring, not because of George Bush or Obama or whoever the next guy will be. The responsibility lies on us to check these guys out and to see that the Washington good old boys and girls club gets blasted to smithereens by fighting for term limits and financial reform. In order to make good choices you need to scrutinize these candidates in three dimension and flesh them out a bit by answering these few questions to yourself.

Who is this person? . . . Find out his history because a persons past most often will get repeated in their future. How has he dealt with finances? How has he dealt in personal business? Does he pay his bills or does he con people or just downright cheat them them out of what’s rightfully theirs. Does his handshake mean anything to him? Is he an arrogant, overblown, SOB to his help or is he kind and generous?

To the moralists out there who love to swallow camels and choke on gnats . . . . A good Christian ain’t always so good . . . . and just because a guy smoked pot when he was a kid don’t necessarily make him evil. (even if he did inhale) BUT being a habitual liar like Bill might.

What is his background? . . . . Who does he hang out with? Is he a good old boy at the City club or does he hand out food on week ends to the needy? His future may reflect his past. Do we need another stumbling block in Congress?

Where has he been? . . . . What is his experience? What has he done in life to make him believe he qualifies for office? Is he an armchair warrior? Or has he smelled the stench of death close up and personal. Does he know where Afghanistan is? (George”bring it on” Bush didn’t) before he sent our guys over there to get sniped at for eternity.

Why does he want the office? . . . Power, position and possession? Or does this guy really have a heart to serve and do what he believes is best for the people who voted him in.

These questions should be answered by you to your satisfaction before you ever step into a voting booth. Otherwise your just wasting your (and every bodies) time . . . it will just bring about more business as usual. CHANGE sounds so pretty, the promise of it even got Obama elected, but what has changed? Other than the national debt of course, since he took office?

Why should we spend our lives plunking out a simple melody when we could be directing a symphony…… shame on us.

Respect the Donald

Last night I watched a mesmerizing interview on CNN between Wolf Blitzer and Donald Trump. (That will be on you tube soon I suppose)

When it started I could have made fun of his hair . . . or cause he’s rich ridicule the shit out him . . . or blame him for the economy . . . or try to belittle him a zillion different ways cause I always thought Trump a bit of a jerk to be honest. Instead I decided to actually listen to what he said with an open mind. ( for once deciding to practice what I preach)

Anyways he brought up his perspective from the top concerning OPEC, housing, big business etc. . . . all very informing and eye opening to me.

One thing that stuck was how all his international rich buddies can’t believe the shit they are getting away with from this administration . . . China especially can’t believe how they are completely cleaning our clock with such ease . . .

China sends a hard nosed business negotiator to the meeting to go up against an American political hack who don’t know his ass from a hole in the ground and by using the “nice guy” approach gives the Chinese everything including the kitchen sink . . . over and over again . . .

Big oil is ripping off the world because of the freedom given a small group of men (OPEC) to raise/lower oil prices at whim.

Banks aren’t loaning money . . . Businesses aren’t expanding or hiring because from their POV there is just too many unknowns out there as to tax hikes, health care costs, etc. They are in a bunker mentality. (For instance one of his big time buddies just had his health costs go up like 100 million dollars a year.)

Can they afford more taxes? Probably some could and probably some can’t, BUT . . . we need these guys far more than we need to protect an illegal drug smuggler . . . or give more loot to an Afghan/Iraqi bandit so he’ll stand down . . . or spend, spend, spend till the presses burn up from over use.

In essence Trump thinks the nice guy approach taken by Obama will lose him reelection in 2012 and I agree . . . actually I hope it does.

He was my last hope, but because of a zillion reasons, many not of his choosing, he has been unable to deliver. Actually, until we have massive reform in Washington . . . term limits/tougher lobby laws/ HARD crack downs and JAIL terms for crooked Congressmen etc. nothing or nobody will be able to stop this Humpty Dumpty government from eventually tumbling over in total collapse.

Charlie Wrangle gets reelected? WHAT? Isn’t this the guy who just got caught with his hands in the cookie jar? Reelected? Does anybody really care about anything anymore?

Until the changes come you can count me out of the voting process . . . It makes no difference anyways . . . just a new suit and tie from either party ain’t gonna get it.

Trump also said he thinks the US is doing really stupid stuff right now across the entire board . . . and because of George Bush and Obama combined, this country has lost a huge amount of international respect . . . and if we don’t get smart quick, in just a few years we will be finished as the great American Super Power . . . period.

Say what you will about the Donald, but there is one smart mind under the come over. . . that has ME thinking.

Right Up The Middle part 2

Staying on this balance beam for one more time . . . We all know that eating a balanced meal is far better for us than one of junk food and if we neglect the fruits and veggies long enough and devour enough Big Mack’s we will end up either on a gurney or kicking our fat stomachs with our knees as we shuffle through the McDonald’s parking lot on the way to ‘super size me’ hell.

What we tend to forget is that to continually eat the greasy drippings from our favorite Right OR Left wing guru’s plate will clog our minds as quickly and as deadly as the hog’s fat clogs our arteries.

This balancing act takes place on many levels at the same time. Respect is the glue that holds it all together. It is a corner stone in the mind, body, balance equation.

Lao Tzu coined the phrase a very long time ago “Know your enemy.” Does that just mean to know his name? Or perhaps know what he’s up to? Or to know who he is? Yes all of those things count, but on a deeper level old Lao is saying in order to know your enemy you must also respect him. How much respect is there in the US today for people of other positions and circumstances?

Every since our resounding victory in ww2 the US has been riding this huge self righteous ego trip of invincibility. We have ridden this wave of belief in Manifest Destiny to the point of stupidity and are about to crash onto the shores of hell, flag/slogans and all.

In Korea our famed general Douglas Macarthur (who was much of the time an arrogant jerk) refused to believe the Chinese would ever oppose him as he sped towards the Yalu River . . . well they did. He sent entire divisions into a frozen meat grinder ill equipped in every thing from clothing to ammo and thousands of them died or were captured because of his arrogant buffoonery. He failed to respect or know his enemy.

In Vietnam we entered into that country on a six week military exercise to teach (the slopeheads) a lesson. Ten years later, after accumulating 50,000 KIA and a couple hundred thousand causalities, we left with our tails between our legs. Why? Because we had failed to respect our enemy.

In this last round of invasions (Iraq and Afghanistan) I’m afraid we are doing no better, We STILL fail to respect our enemy as we search frantically for a way out of his trap.

Now this is all military stuff, but we could just as well bring this attitude home to our government as well as ourselves. On a day to day level our enemy is not quite so obvious and it’s easy to get lulled to sleep by a good speech.

Rush spouts something on his radio show we like and we nod our heads in agreement, even get pissed off at the target of his angst. Does anybody bother to check it out to see if it’s even true?

Obama gives a long and lovely speech about how the recession is over . . . really? Well, Mr. President where’s the jobs? . . . Or “Where’s the beef?” like the little old lady asked in the Wendy’s add.

So to really know the enemy one needs to understand and RESPECT his thoughts, his motivation and just how bad or how far is he willing to go to get them. We must quit belittling him and stop taking our knives to a gun fight. Nobody has all the answers. Actually we will never be closer to wrong than when we are convinced without doubt we are right.

If we settle down enough to listen to his side of the story we may find we have a lot in common with him. Maybe we can even negotiate some sort of a compromise, not just TALK compromise either like the politicians do, but actually mean it. Actually find a middle of the road balance where everybody can, if need be, even suffer equally if that is what it will take.

We won’t always agree or find common ground with our opponent either. Some times we will just be too far apart, but we don’t have to agree in order to be civil. We can argue an issue till the cows come home and still maintain a certain decorum of respectability.

We don’t have to revert to back stabbing and name calling as we seek to shout down our opponent do we? This polarization and “get even attitude” in the long run is probably going to end up being far more dangerous than the problem was.

When it comes to our personal lives it’s merely a matter of choice. Do you want to or not. Either way you choose you can expect the law of sowing and reaping (or karma) to fall heavily upon your shoulders. It always does and we are the products of our thoughts, both individually and collectively.

On the political scene it’s a bit more complicated. Our system has been compromised by special interests to the point that our elected officials are mere mouth pieces, puppets and panderers to these assholes who have infiltrated our Constitution and changed it to their benefit. Nothing happens good on that scene until we the people take back what’s ours.

Warfare is sometimes the only answer, but once begun all rational thought and compromise goes out the window. It’s blood, guts and bayonets. . . that’s what it may take to get our country back, but this stuff we’re doing now with the name calling and polarization is not doing any of us any good. We are just playing into the hands of the true enemy.

We must get to know HIM. We must respect his ability. We must find a weakness in his armor. It’s there, but only to those willing to deny this rush of emotion that seems to have taken over the American argument. We must reveal this enemy by passing laws and enforcing them until he has been drug out from under his rock and allowed to shrivel and dry in the sun.

Right Up the Middle

On the football field everyone who plays the game knows the hardest route to the goal post is right up the middle. It’s also the fastest way because it’s the shortest distance. Once you break free . . . zoom you’re on your way to a touch down.

Now if you were to take a good look at the game of politics these days and play football like we play politics no one would ever get the ball out of the backfield. The only touchdowns anyone would see would be the imaginary ones you get at the beginning of the game by the bookies and sport casters. The political backfield would look more like a continues ‘end around’ from one side to the other with no one ever even getting enough yardage to earn another set of downs. The stands would soon empty when the fans realized that it would be more exciting to go home and watch Dr. Phil that sit and watch these goons continue to run themselves ragged in circles.

If someone were to ask me to tell them in one word what this country needed the most in order to get something accomplished I would say “balance” because everything I see around me in every direction is out of balance and also out of focus. From the core family to the media to this very planet we live on, we are seemingly drowning in division and most of it is created by us, not God, not the Conservatives nor the Liberals or even the terrorists . . . us. How come? Why are we doing this to ourselves? What does balance actually mean when it comes to living it anyway?

Well, on the one side we have the Rush Limbaughs and his company of true believers, on the other side we have the Michael Moore’s and his company of true believers. In the middle between the two, we have a huge void of emptiness as seemingly there is no longer a middle of the road. These guys are both bright, intelligent individuals, but somewhere along the way and for various reasons, they have fallen out of balance and sadly have taken their large following of sheeple with them.

People who can think for themselves and make a decision based upon their needs and their desires are in short supply these days. Rather then think through the decision making process themselves, the vast majority of our citizens have boughten into the lies, deceptions and half truths of their chosen political guru and have subsequently been drawn into their vortex of negativity.

Officials will say anything these days to get into office, but once in, soon thereafter they say nothing that doesn’t pass muster with the lobbyists and special interest groups that sent them there. So in a very basic way the government of the US is no longer a government of the people, it is merely a front for a mob composed of special interests, the military/industrial complex and their minions. There will never be any hope for balance in Congress so long as our elected officials cater to these groups.

Everybody on the right fears Obama and his ‘socialistic ‘ tendencies. Everybody on the left fears the conservatives and their tea party that is growing amongst us in leaps and bounds. The left hates the right, sees them all as idiots. The right hates the left, sees them all as idiots. While in the center, at the balance point there is a strong, resounding silence. We’ve all been had by this diversion that keeps us at each others throats, until the ultimate changing of our form of government.

What I (and others) see coming down the pike is not a Socialist government, but a Fascist government being ushered in on the wings of acute nationalism.

Nationalism

An important part of belief in “manifest destiny” is “nationalism.” Nationalism holds that human civilization can be broken up into basic units called “nations,” which basically consist of people having a similar origin and unifying culture. Each nation, therefore, should have its own state: this is in fact the rule today. The United States is home to the American nation, Russia is home to the Russian nation, and so on. Theoretically, at least.

Nationalism claims particular virtues for a given nation, and particular responsibilities. Rome believed it had a mission to civilize the world, Russia believed it had a mission to civilize the world, as did the Soviet Union, and as does the United States, at least sometimes. I would say that nationalism is basically a neutral concept: nationalistic arguments have been used to start countless wars, but they have also held countries together.

Although in and of itself nationalism is seemingly impotent enough, once it becomes acute and is pushed to the forefront by an over the top emphasis on patriotism/military might/hero culture/ like that which seems today to be coming from the Right it could grow and ultimately turn Fascist as the Third Reich did.

We in this country have always felt that none of that stuff can happen here. Well of course it can. Was Germany in the thirties an ignorant third world country? No. Germany was a central European country every bit as intelligent and progressive as England and her neighbors. The Germans excelled in art, music, literature and were every bit as advanced scientifically as we ourselves. What drew her in was the very things that are drawing us in, nationalistic pride and the fact that they were broke. Hitler buoyed them up on the wings of rhetorical promise and the rest is history. And if we are foolish enough to follow her path we will also enjoy the fruits of her labors, ending up as she did in 1945.

We are nothing special, we have no contract or unction from God. We are not the chosen people like we seem to think. This manifest destiny stuff is pure elitist bullshit. We have only been around a couple hundred years for Christs sake. We’re just babies on the world scene. Babies whose leaders are selling out to the highest international bidder. They may as well put the U.S. up on E-Bay . . . ‘For sale The United States of America. . . . make us an off we can’t refuse.’

Shame on us for having argued and fought and laid about while this country has been cunningly whisked out from under our feet. And a lot of people don’t even know it yet. They are the new German Jew sitting in their houses waiting for things to get better. Praying for things to get better, while all the while on the other side of their drawn drapes the noose tightens.

If we are not already out of time we need to get back in shape. We need to find our balance . . . we need to drop the sound bites, fill the middle and become true patriots. Then we can use that new found balance to carry the ball without fumbling while we dodge and weave our way right up the middle, not stopping until we reach the goal line.

Can we do it? Of course we can. Will we do it? Not this way, not sitting around calling each other idiots and dopes while throwing stones across the great divide where the balance point once lived……. neba hachi GI.

It’s Every Man For Himself

In every great battle there is a moment when opposing armies realize that they have either won or lost the conflict they find themselves in. The victor makes one last charge while the loser, realizing his command structure has broken down in disarray, heads for the hills.

So the call is going out to my four readers here and now . . . “IT”S EVERY MAN FOR HIMSELF!!” Find a way out of the compound, escape to the jungle and utilize the survival skills you have been taught . . . you’re on your own. Good luck.

As I sat before my TV last night watching the incentive debate going on between the republicans and the democrats I asked myself. Where’s the change? Where’s the earnest non-partisan effort of both parties to come together and get this thing done?

Now Obama will get his bill passed, but his own party has pretty much scuttled it’s affect in my opinion. I now know without a doubt (even though I hate to admit it to myself) the battle for change is over. It’s been bored to death by partisan business-as-usual and has gone AWOL.

It would have taken a herculean effort anyways to change anything in Washington politics and it was probably just to much to ask from the very beginning. I mean how do you make a silk purse out of a pigs ear anyways?

I had a lot of hope for Obama and his administration. His cry for change rang true in my ears. I thought maybe, just maybe he could lead this country out of the morass of in-fighting and bickering and do-nothing-but-pander-to-special-interests legislation used by previous elected officials that has brought this country to its knees. I had hope even though I knew Obama was going to have a tough time of it. Even though I knew he would never do much on his own. Even though . . .

Last night that hope dried up and blew away as I watched one Senator after another acting out of his/ her own ego, more concerned with a few moments in the spot light, more concerned with his/her pet beliefs and projects, more concerned with seemingly everything available than the ONLY thing he/she should be concerned with . . . putting together a viable, hard hitting incentive package that would get us out of this hole we have dug for ourselves.

I saw little of that sort of concern. Lot’s of rhetoric, the American people this, the American people that, but all said in the same vein of trying to prove THEIR point.

The democrats trying to fill the incentive bill with enough pork to make a pig sick.

The republicans crying the same old story of tax breaks for business and the rich.

Pelosi and crew aren’t about to give in to their wild liberal demands.

The republicans aren’t about to give up their kneeling spot beneath the Golden Calf of perverted capitalism.

And the beat goes on as together they chew each on others asses even as they fall “together” over the cliff.

The winds of change have even taken on the foul odor of fear mongering as Obama does much the same as George Bush did before him by trying to rush the 900 billion dollar incentive package through congress.

By the way aren’t these (congress) the same assholes who just approved themselves a raise? You would think that the collective wisdom amongst them would have raised a flag on this one. No?

This all equals another no . . . no hope. It’s all being flushed down the drain of self interest.

I believe Obama was the man for the hour, but the Rush Limbaugh (and others) buzzword of “socialism” (remember McCarthy and his “communism” witch hunt?) will prove impossible for him to deal with and he will spend most of his time defending himself and his administration when only a strong offense will win the day for ‘change’.

Is it the republicans fault? Is it the democrats fault? No. It’s everybody’s fault.

Perhaps it’s merely fate. Perhaps it’s just our time to die like everything eventually does and nothing can change it, but for certain history will not be kind to this generation as the record will show that when the ship of State sprung a leak and began to list her occupants were to busy arguing about how to apply the patch and she sunk from lack of attention.

Personally I’m done with politics (so you no longer need to put up with my rants 🙂 and am getting back in survival mode myself.

I have no more hope for change or for a fix or for anything else coming from Washington save a bunch of hot air, and it’s going to take a whole hell of a lot more than hot air to keep the folks sitting around their stoves this winter warm so I’m closing with (and I hope I’m wrong). . . one more time.

“IT”S EVERY MAN FOR HIMSELF!”

Purveyors of Fear

Watching the recent inauguration I was somewhat taken aback by the large crowds and the obviously happy people creating them. There was a distinct air of hope permeating from these millions of people. There was a fire in their belly keeping them warm as they stood in the cold awaiting the change about to take place on a distant podium. A new day was dawning and I believe everybody there realized it. Even Dick Chaney showing up in a wheelchair was a type and shadow of an old way about to be replaced by the winds of change.

Were these people ALL being deceived by this Obama character, this guy gifted with enough rhetorical power to entice the scales off a snake? Or were these people merely moving within the same vibe that lead Obama himself to that podium?

Are these millions of people willing to do what it takes to get this ship of State on course again or are they just looking for a savior to do it for them? Can this huge groundswell of support last when the day dims and their hope is put to the test?…as it surely will.

Who knows for sure, all any of us can do is hope. I am not too optimistic, but with all my being I hope this thing succeeds cause I truly believe this is the last chance we have to get our country back.

There is another crowd though, a crowd filled with people who are cold and fearful of the change this man is promoting. These people wear the compliment to hope, the yin to the yang and are to be expected. To them Obama is the anti-Christ himself.

This crowd feeds off the vibe of fear. Fear of the black man. Fear of the terrorist. Fear of change. Fear of seemingly everything that would vaguely change or reroute this highly touted capitalistic system they have created for themselves.

So, we have two distinct armies growing upon our landscape. The army of hope and the army of fear. Who will win? Don’t have a clue, but for me and my house we will gladly and willingly take up the challenge of hope and stand behind our new president Barrack Obama the half-black senator from Chicago.

I have a friend who is one of Rush Limbaugh’s (who’s a commanding general in the army of fear mongering) most faithful ditto heads. To me this is quite alarming as I consider giving ones rational thought process to fearing anybody or anything is tantamount to defeat by choice.

I find this totally unacceptable and have told my friend so, but as his mind has been clogged by Limbauitis for the last twenty years, he has in essence become a bobble headed minion in Rushes army of nit wits.

So because of his inability to discuss anything beyond the party line I’m going to ask an open question across the internet to my many (4) readers.

What are you conservative right wingers afraid of anyways?

Can you not see that time has risen the oil to the top of our capitalistic system and (the oil) has been siphoned off by the rich and powerful? That because of greed this highly touted system is now out of the reach of the middle class? Can’t you see that the rich patients have taken over the asylum and the playing field has become unbalanced?

It’s not that capitalism is in any way responsible for the collapse of our financial/banking/real estate system. Capitalism is as as good as it gets in a nation of strong, hard working, citizens, but the fine line that keeps it afloat and viable has always by nature been close to the water line.

Now because of the weight of this overwhelming greed the boat is, even with all hands manning the pumps, slowly sinking towards the abyss and the only thing keeping it afloat at this time is hope.

Yet there are those amongst us who are doing their damnedest to see that we fail and the ship sinks . . .why?

Hope sets one free, fear keeps one in bondage. It’s as simple as that.

The status quo is quite comfortable for the rich and the powerful in this country who have captured the whole pie and refuse to share with the rest of us. They don’t go to bed hungry. They don’t get laid off or lose their jobs. They don’t see factories closing all around them. They see these factories merely moving to a different place off shore.

A place where they can forget about all the hindering pollution laws. A place where they can forget about unions and work stoppages and high wages. They merely move to a place where they can make MORE money. This makes sense to them, this is good business and it fits perfectly into their perverted definition of capitalism.

These people use fear like a cattle prod to keep us in line. They promise to protect us from the terrorist. They promise all sorts of shit, but in the end that’s all we get . . . more shit.

These purveyors of fear remind me of the old mob in the Bronx selling protection to all the store owners. They walk in and promise you that for a fee of their choosing your store will be protected and if you comply with their demands you have a safe store, if not it gets blown up . . . simple. Reminds me of the insurance industry and this homeland security crap.

Like I said in my last entry. A rag tag army of terrorists is hardly worth 12 billion dollars a month when all it takes is an alert and well armed citizenry to drive them into the sea.

“We’re fighting them there so we won’t have to fight them here” is such a bullshit explanation I cannot even respond to it. Does anybody think in all reality that this country would have the casualties we have suffered over In Iraq and Afghanistan if we were fighting terrorism here in this country?

The towers went down for one reason, and one reason only. The complacency of those charged with defending us from this sort of thing. Using the laws in place and opening their fucking eyes was more than enough to keep us safe. They were asleep at the wheel.

If we started watching the borders. If we got our eyes off the pavement two steps in front of our feet and began to observe our surroundings instead of stumbling around the malls like sheep in a pen. If we actually began to take responsibility for ourselves, and our towns and our nation, the terrorist wouldn’t stand a chance.

We need change. We need to wake up and realize this is a violent and uncompromising world we live in. We need to shove the purveyor of fear off into the night and we need to press forward into the light of day . . . and change . . . and hope.

I pray Obama can keep the vibe going long enough that the people can catch up because if this thing fails we all fail. If it succeeds we all succeed. . . cause in the real world we are the catalyst that will make it all happen. Obama can only lead the army, he can not ever BE the army.

Land of the Impotent

Does anybody remember Woody Guthrie? Or Pete Seeger? Does anybody remember the time in this country during the great union movement of the thirties when these guys organized the disenfranchised worker all across this country? Does anybody remember when men actually shoved their heels into their turf and told the massa, “Enough of the shit, we ain’t gonna take it anymore!”

They sang their protest songs, they took their beatings, they stood together with nothing but ball bats as hired company thugs attacked and beat them mercilessly. These men, mostly uneducated, mostly dirt poor, mostly afraid, had within themselves the gumption to stand tall against the established rule and ultimately they kicked his ass. They chose to fight back rather than sit and watch as the ribs appeared in the sides of their children.

Thus began the rise of the worker unions all across this country. And as they grew they became more powerful till at the height of their rein in America they had Boss Hog shivering in his boots at the first sign of a walkout and strike.

Of course history played the game out and the union, once the hero of the working class, has by now become an impotent side show because of their own version of back room dealings and capitulation. The generation of strong men who fought for justice retired on their hard won pensions while the spawn who followed grew lazy and complacent. They began to use the union as their own department of “Get all you can while giving as less as you can” and ultimately destroyed it.

It seems in todays world we are back to square one again, except this time it’s actually worse. This time Boss Hog has merely shoved his middle finger up our noses and with the help of his friends in Washington moved to Mexico. He bought labor from China, India, and had a zillion other ways of getting us back to walking on our knees. He even has us thanking him for his benevolence.

We have in essence become a very large and expanding bunch of winers that no one seems to have much respect for. We don’t even respect ourselves. We complain about the bullshit happening all around us, but are afraid to stir the waters too much cause well, you know, we don’t want to make the man angry with us. We put up with being robbed, suckered, punched in the face and kicked in our ass until we find a soft spot on the hard porch and just sit there complaining into our wine bottle. (why do you think they call it wine?)

Why do our women disrespect us? We don’t deserve any. Why do we send our kids off to fight George Bushes war in some patriotic rush when it was obvious from the very beginning the dope didn’t know his ass from a hole in the ground and the whole world warned us of the fact?

Why did we listen to the bullshit and downright lies that ultimately got them blown to bits in some desert swamp amongst a people totally foreign and uncaring to our way of life or what we were supposedly doing for them? Maybe they just understood all along why we were there in the first place. Something a lot of people in this country still seem to have problems with understanding. Why did we allow all this to happen?

We were willing to fight for Boss Hog, willing to look the other way when he robbed us, even willing to bail him out. When he got caught going to far in his greed we said, “Oh we need Boss, we must bail him out.”

For this we get a peck on the cheek and the privilege of watching another mom and pop store bite the dust as a Chinese Walmart grows in our neighborhood. The impotence and ignorance of the men in this country today is astoundingly pathetic.

Where are the Woody Guthrie’s of this generation? Where are the people willing to take a stand against the robber baron, to take a ball bat to his face and tell him to fuck off, he don’t get no bailout.

Man, I am getting old. . . and discouraged. What will this country look like for my grandchildren after this generation of knee knockers gets done with it is anybodies guess, but I’m betting it won’t be pretty.

As to your personal survival in all this. The very first thing you must do if you plan to survive any of the stuff thats coming down the pike is to search within yourselves for the manhood that your forefathers bequeathed to you . . . and use it.

Quit with the whining and get on with the New Revolution. The pendulum needs a swing to the left again because in all life there is a waning and a waxing, nothing is stagnant …nor should be we. Life is breathing through the chaos. Don’t be afraid, you can too.

The Moral Law

The Moral Law

Sun Tzu said in ‘The Art of War” that a wise man or nation must think hard before he jumps because war taken lightly can, in many ways, destroy you in spite of good intentions. He then gives the five constants that must be in a favorable position before you begin. The first of these being The Moral Law.

How do we rate today when it comes to the moral law?

The Moral Law causes the people to be in complete accord with their ruler, so that they will follow him regardless of their lives, undismayed by any danger.

Let’s take a look at WW2, the last war we had when the majority of the country were in one accord. The Nazi’s and the Japanese were clearly defined as enemies and we were all out, no holds barred, dedicated to seeking their destruction by any means possible. This was our last true war when simply defined, goal oriented, victory only began after the enemy was utterly defeated. Simple and to the point. Everybody understood what was necessary, everybody knew what was expected of them and away they went creating the greatest war machine the world has ever known.

Sacrifice was in vogue. We rationed gas, grew victory gardens, bought war bonds. Rosie the riveter was born and the factories producing cars switched to tanks and Jeeps all because we owned the moral high ground. Everybody suffered, at home and abroad, and felt themselves to be a part of the war.

Our fighting men came from the farms and factories and cities all over the nation in droves. Many volunteering, some drafted, but all dedicated to stopping Hitler and Tojo. They fought hard and mean while absorbing huge casualty rates. We had the moral high ground and by damn when we took a piece of it we kept it. If we got knocked backwards like in the Bulge we regrouped and took it back. We kept moving and taking until we met up with our allies and the enemy surrendered.

We returned home in dress uniforms to parades and victory dances, partied hard and dispersed across the nation victorious. We built homes on the GI bill, had kids and began the greatest peace time economy the world had ever know.

We were proud, and we deserved to be because we did it simply and we did it right and everybody knew it. We owned the moral high ground in WW2.

Then in the era 1961 through 1975 we got involved in Vietnam. As the war escalated the light Westmoreland saw at the end of the tunnel was in actuality the implosion of America as we then knew her. Not all at once of course, it takes a while for a ship of state as large as this one to sink, but the moral issues and civil unrest arising out of them during our action in Vietnam has never been quenched. Today, some forty years later it seems as if it all happened only yesterday to those of us involved. The latter sixties was engulfed in chaos from so many angles that we have not yet fully recovered.

Question is: Had the people changed that much since WW2? Or had the moral climate changed? Were the college kids of the sixties all pussies as opposed to the kids of the early forties? Or had the moral climate changed to the point that they could no longer stand behind Johnson who escalated the war and Nixon who expanded it (after promising to end it)? Could it be the kids who opposed were more righteous than the leaders who propagated? I’d give the trophy to the kids.

These were the same kids their fathers had been. They merely realized America was having an identity crisis and didn’t want to be a part of it. They were intelligent enough to know that the country elite had forgotten all the promises they made to the world about being a bastion of truth, justice and democracy.

Instead our best and brightest leaders bowed to the golden idol being offered by a growing military/industrial complex and sold themselves and their offices to the devil. The US, blinded by their own power and position in the world, no longer cared about the . . . The Moral Law.

And the beat goes on . . .

Heaven

The second constant in Sun Tzu’s ‘Art of War’, Heaven, signifies the broader environment of a conflict. Not only is it necessary to have the advantage in military strength before entering the conflict, you also must take into account the environment in which that conflict will be taking place, especially when it comes to conditions that will give advantage to the enemy. Take the Nazi invasion of Russia as an example.

Because of over confidence acquired during his easy tromp through Western Europe Adolph Hitler took no account of winter conditions in Russia when he invaded her on 22 June 1941. He figured his march to Moscow would be over by the time winter appeared and subsequently shot himself in his own foot by not having his troops prepared for a long winter campaign. In spite of overwhelming strength this fact alone would lead to his defeat in Russia, and ultimately the rest of Europe.

In Vietnam the fact that a lot of the fighting there took place in a jungle environment meant that the largest and most powerful nation the world has ever known was literally stopped in their tracks by conditions in the field. We tried to fight a conventional war while the VC were utilizing gorilla tactics.

Subsequently we ended up fighting small unit battles that rarely went beyond company/platoon sized units. Even when we attacked an area in battalion strength or larger, it was no different. The enemy picked an advantageous time and place, ambushed a smaller unit and disappeared before reinforcements could arrive.

Because of home field advantage and the experience obtained while fighting the French before us this put the VC and the NVA on an even footing with the American. We often claimed victory in battle, but actually, lots of times the NVA had merely gathered their dead and broke contact. On the whole Westmoreland, though a top notch commander in WW2 never got the picture and spent his entire tour swatting flies with a baseball bat.

Giap, who planned his fighting tactics according to the teachings of Sun Tzu can say he defeated us in Indochina, but in reality it was the environment and our inability to adapt to gorilla warfare as much as anything else. Those like Col. David Hackworth, who did adapt, did quite well for themselves and many times beat the VC at their own game. There just weren’t enough free thinking commanders to turn the tide and by 1975 we’d had enough and left Vietnam.

Today as we attack the huge mountain barriers in Afghanistan this new war is every bit as dangerous, perhaps even more so, than Vietnam was. I can’t help but think we have not learned anything of substance from that previous conflict at all.
